Gotta disagree with you about the honorifics. I don\'t have a problem with calling someone \"Reverend,\" even if I don\'t believe in that person\'s faith or religion. It is just common courtesy to address someone in the most respectful manner possible unless you are on a first-name basis with that person.
Secondly, you said that you don\'t have a problem addressing a physician as \"Dr.\" So-and-so because that person went through the trouble of going to medical school to get highly educated enough to become a physician. Most people who desire to be addressed as \"Reverend\" went to seminary to get an advanced degree in theology, which most likely included a hell of a lot of study of philosophy, history, and psychology along with study of the bible. To me, education is education, and if that person did the time, they deserve my respect, even if I don\'t believe in their faith or religion.
In my opinion, being an atheist does not give a person the right to be disrespectful. By being disrespectful, you are only perpetuating negative stereotypes of atheists. - Even after the second go-round, I disbelieved that you were reading the actual text from the Mormons. When you combine ignorance and hilarity, the payback on that page punches through the roof. Just thought I would enlighten you as to how certain people get their religious titles. In certain Protestant denominations, Reverend is bestowed upon those who have been ordained. Never mind that ordination consists of being touched on the head and prayed over by a bunch of other ordained guys whose heads were touched and prayed over by...well you get the picture.
You don\'t hear too many ministers called Reverend these days. Usually they just have a title like \"Minister of Youth\" or \"Minister of Media.\" For the big gun pastors, they like to get a PhD in theology so they can be \"Doctor\" so and so.
So there you have it...from a small corner of Protestantism. Don\'t you feel better knowing all this? - Halfway through the show now (only took me 35 mins to get to work today). On the Overcoming Masturbation thing... it\'s interesting to me that the site only mentions the possibility of men masturbating (they use the male pronoun exclusively, apparently).
Because, as we all know, if it\'s a girl doing it, it\'s hot. Kind of like how the populace thinks two girls getting it on is hot, but two guys getting it on is cause for a rally promoting \"family values\".
